Lessons on Motivation

It was the last weekend of the skiing season. The conditions were the worst in the season: rainy, cold, and a horrible sugar they called snow. All I wanted was to stay home and be lazy. But I had set myself an ambitious objective for the season: to ride 500 km. By the last weeks’ statistics, there was no chance to achieve it. Still, that was all I could think and talk about. “Don’t even think about me spending the time with you in this weather for this impossible goal”, said my husband.

We went outside. The snow was slow, my skis were not moving, I was wet. After 2 hours we gave up. There was no award in the objective, so why bother? I resigned myself. Or so I thought until I saw the statistics. Miraculously, all I needed were 10 km. I couldn’t sleep well the whole night. Only 5 rides. I woke up:

“I’m going out, this time I take the snowboard. Even if I fail, I want to know that I’ve done my part.”

“I come with you”, said my husband, “although you know you have chosen the slowest way to achieve your goal”. In the end, 503 km. No awards, just a great feeling.

What motivates people? According to Eisenhower

“Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.”

In this workshop you will learn through stories and exercises few useful techniques for helping others want to take action.

About Clara:

Working as a Product Manager in software companies I discovered early on that communication is 80% of my time: being it to persuade, to motivate, to inform, to sell, or to listen. I remember being very nervous before every important meeting and admiring the ones that were able to speak with confidence.

I joined Toastmasters 4 years ago. I couldn’t stop shaking for 10 speeches, but once I discovered that people are inspired by my personal stories, I can’t stop speaking and sharing. I am now a respected speaker in my company where I spoke at various conferences and webinars with audiences of hundreds of people.
